MX-featured DVDs have an exceptionally high degree of compatibility with DVD players, and are designed to provide high quality audio and video as well as cutting edge interactive features while being compliant with the DVD-Video specification. However, the DVD-Video specification is complex, and some players interpret it in unusual or incorrect ways. If you experience any of the issues below, check with the player manufacturer to see if a firmware update is available. If you experience issues with MX interactive features, we want to hear about it. Please use the form below to describe the issue. Issues & Solutions Please review the common issues and solutions below to see if they address your situation.
During general playback, the player stutters or freezes, or there are problems with audio synchronization and quality. If you experience general playback issues with audio and video quality or synchronization, you may have a dirty or damaged disc. Check the disc for scratches and smudges. During programs with MX features, a camera/angle icon or menu appears over the video. MX features are implemented using the multiangle capabilities of DVD-Video. Some player manufacturers force display of an indicator on screen when multiple angles are present. This is meant to be helpful, but can become annoying. MX features fail to activate. A very few Sony and Philips DVD players suffer from a bug which can prevent MX features from working. (Sony DVP-NS775, Philips DVDR 615, DVDR 720, DVDR 730, DVDR 740, DVDR 755). Most MX titles are programmed in a way that this bug is avoided, however. Of the hundreds of players we've tested MX features on, we've found only one which doesn't implement DVD-Video playback properly and is incompatible with MX features. (Curtis Mathes CMD-5000.) Unfortunately, if you have this player, the only option is to view MX material on a different player. When activating an MX visual commentary feature, such as onThe Who: Tommy and Quadrophenia Live With Special Guests, the video or the audio doesn't switch. A very few DVD players are not compliant with the DVD-Video specification and don't change angle and audio simultaneously when requested. These include Apex AD-1145, AD-1200, AD-1225, AD-3201; Philips DVD-642 (Some versions only, check for a firmware update); Samsung DVD-V3500, DVD-V3650; Sony SLV-D300; Venturer STS57E. When activating an MX visual commentary feature, such as on The Who: Tommy and Quadrophenia Live With Special Guests, the audio mutes briefly and/or changes before the video does. This is expected behavior with some players, and is usually not very noticeable. Graphics flash repeatedly over the video during playback of MX-enhanced programs. MX features are implemented using buttons over the video to activate and deactivate the feature. Due to requirements of the DVD specification, these buttons reload every 2 seconds. Forward and Reverse Scan are disabled. During MX features, buttons are present to allow you to interact with the video. Some players (notably those from Panasonic) unnecessarily disable forward and reverse scan when buttons are present over video. This affects features in other DVDs as well, such as the white rabbit in The Matrix, and InfiniFilm? titles. Unfortunately, this is a player-specific issue and there is no foolproof workaround. One can generally begin the forward or reverse scan prior to or after the MX feature availability and continue scanning through the feature.
